CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring significant upgrades in camera technology, processing power, and battery performance. Both variants are equipped with a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with an adjustable aperture. They are powered by the new A20 Pro chip and include an improved vapor chamber for better thermal regulation. Additionally, Apple has redesigned the Dynamic Island to provide more detailed information. Preorders commence on September 12, with sales beginning September 18 across over 65 countries and regions.

The upgraded main camera utilizes six laser-cut blades to shift between four aperture settings, allowing users to adjust depth of field and lighting within the Camera app. Manual controls for shutter speed and white balance are also introduced in the Pro settings. A histogram feature helps users gauge exposure levels before capturing images or recording videos. New Photographic Styles enable texture and grain adjustments. The phones also support Cinematic effects for videos recorded at up to 60 frames per second, even after shooting.

Apple’s Reference Image feature introduces a new method for verifying if photos have been altered post-capture. When taking a picture with the Main camera, signed sensor data is recorded in reference mode. This information is processed into a reference image via Private Cloud Compute, allowing users to compare it with the original shot within the Photos app. Apple plans to add support for SynthID later in 2026, and state that image metadata will serve as another way to identify AI-manipulated or edited content.

Variable aperture expands camera control options

The A20 Pro chip employs a 2-nanometer process, integrating a six-core CPU alongside a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU provides performance improvements of up to 40% compared to the A19 Pro. The processor also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, totaling 32 cores. A reengineered thermal system connects the chip more directly to a larger vapor chamber, which offers three times the surface area of its predecessor. Apple states this setup enhances sustained performance during intensive tasks.

Battery life has been extended on both models, with more notable improvements on eSIM-only versions. The iPhone 18 Pro supports up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max reaches as much as 45 hours. Wired accessories can charge the Pro model to 50% in approximately 15 minutes. The eSIM-only models, which replace the physical SIM tray with space for other components, will be released in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

Siri AI integrated with iOS 27

The lineup of iPhone 18 Pro devices runs on iOS 27 and supports the newest Apple Intelligence features. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for compatible devices configured in English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish will follow in October. Siri AI can utilize personal context from messages, emails, and photos when responding to inquiries. It can also interpret information displayed on the screen. Cloud-based tasks are handled via Private Cloud Compute, while other functions operate directly on the device.

Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the United States, with the iPhone 18 Pro Max starting at $1,299. Customers can select storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Finishes include black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. The first wave of markets will see retail availability starting September 18, with an additional 20 countries and regions launching on September 25.
